Jersey Pottery hot on the heels of the Jersey cow
30 April 2007

For many years, Jersey’s gorgeous golden cows have dominated the island’s export industry, however, Jersey Pottery’s latest partnership is set to challenge this title.  An agreement being signed today between the family-run business and Dartington Crystal will mean Jersey Pottery products enter a sales network of over 400 new UK department stores and retail outlets.

The collaboration is part of a series of distribution leads established at recent world trade fairs, NEC Spring fair UK and Frankfurt Ambiente Germany (the world’s largest consumer fair) supported by the Jersey Export Development Initiative.

With the trade fairs generating enquiries from 21 different countries, from as far a field as Australia and the United States, Acting Business & Enterprise Director, Sean Pritchard says: “Jersey Pottery is an excellent example of the way JEDI is helping local businesses to achieve significant growth through the export of goods and services; these are very promising times both for Jersey Pottery and the Island as a whole.”

Managing Director of Jersey Pottery, Jonathan Jones, said that in the immediate future the company was looking forward to seeing Jersey Pottery products at many more popular UK stores such as House of Fraser and John Lewis, placing them alongside famous brands such as Emma Bridgewater, Wedgewood and Royal Doulton.  “These are very exciting times as the partnership with Dartington puts Jersey Pottery in a strong position against rival ceramic manufacturers,” he explains.

The distribution of goods through Dartington Crystal will begin in May, to coincide with the release of Jersey Pottery’s new products in the UK. These include the bespoke ‘Winespeak’ range of mugs, plates and coasters illustrated and captioned by renowned pictorial satirist, Ronald Searle.

Jersey Pottery is also celebrating the following high profile export contracts which have been secured this year.  These include:

  • A contract to supply Visit Scotland with five new exclusive design ranges including a leaping salmon range, a tartan range, a shortbread range and a Robert Burns range.  The range will be produced throughout the year.
  • Four new lines, with an initial order of 1200 items, for the prestigious Aga Rayburn company which is famous for its high quality ovens.  The four new items (terrine dish, crème brule dish, rectangular baking dish and square baking dish) have been through vigorous tests and have been recently delivered to all Aga Rayburn stores in the UK.
  • 2200 units from the popular Botanical range in Agapanthus for Lakeland Ltd to be promoted in their summer mail order catalogue.
